Member Of The Beastie Boys, John Berry, Dies At 52

John Berry, who coined the band name "Beastie Boys", died yesterday of frontal lobe dementia.

John Berry was an original member of Beastie Boys, meeting bandmates Mike D, Adam Yauch, and Kate Schellenbach early on, and soon began performing from 1980 to 1983, contributing to the 1982 7" EP, Polly Wog Stew.

Originating as a hardcore punk rock group in New York, the band would occasionally perform at CBGB; the punk music club where their favourite bands such as Bad Brains, the Dead Kennedy's, the Misfits, and Reagan Youth would play.

Eventually the Beastie Boys realized their hip hop destiny and so went on to create albums such as Hot Sauce Committee Part II and Check Your Head.

Condolences to the incredible John Berry, without which we may never have had the Beastie Boys.
