Why I (Surprisingly) Like Fetty Wap

If you've read my posts prior to this you've probably gotten the impression that I have a strong distaste for any and all Millennial Pop/Rap/Hip-Hop (AKA Drake, Justin Bieber, Zayn Malik, Selena Gomez, yada, yada, yada).

And that's true for the most part. But there are a select few that I really do like. Next to none of them are rappers.

Although I do have an appreciation for Fetty Wap.

For starters, unlike many, Fetty Wap (Willie Maxwell) did not grow up in an upperclass neighbourhood or have life easy from the start (losing one eye to glaucoma when he was young as you're probably familiar with). So that's pretty respectable in itself. He didn't need money to make money, he had perseverance and courage, and I love that.

Secondly, he doesn't exclude himself to just rapping. He sings as well, which is pretty cool. You wouldn't catch Drake singing in the shower never mind in public, he just knows he's terrible.

Thirdly, and this is one of my favourites, is that he writes his songs. Alone. Without any help. (That must be hard for you to believe huh Taylor Swift?). His biggest song, Trap Queen, was written solely by himself, and that's f*cking awesome.

And finally, he's unusual as hell. The guys voice is unmistakable and sounds absolutely amazing. He actually has a really amazing voice, which you don't often get in rappers. He sounds different from anybody else you hear rapping on the radio and it's not just good, it's brilliant.

Bonus points for the fact that his breakout song implies that there is actually a girl in his life that he cares about rather than it being about a "h*e" or a multitude of "b*tches".

Thank you for being inspirational and talented Fetty,

you give me hope.

Love,

Chelsea
